Boulevardier
The Boulevardier is cousin to the Negroni, substituting bourbon for gin.
It first appeared in Barflies
& Cocktails by Harry McElhone in 1927. McElhone, a former
bartender at the Plaza Hotel in New York, had left the country after the
passage pf prohibition and opened Harry's
New York Bar in Paris. The drink was named after the Paris magazine
The Boulevardier which was edited
by fellow American expatriate Erskine Gwynn, a devotee of the drink and
nephew of tycoon Alfred Vanderbilt.
