Manhattan
The precise origin of the Manhattan is debatable. Some say it was
created at a party at the Manhattan Club in New York in the 1870s, but there
are references to a similar cocktail up to 10 years earlier. The first
recorded recipe of the Manhattan appeared in 1891 in The
Flowing Bowl by William Smith. A Manhattan is traditionally made
with rye, but many recipes use other types of whisky, especially bourbon.
