Perfect Drink® recipe

Hurricane

The Hurricane cocktail was invented in the 1940's and is still one of the most popular drinks in New Orleans to this day. Pat O'Brien is credited with the creation of this sweet rum based beverage. The story has it that Mr. O'Brien was forced to buy rum along with cases of more popular liquors for his French Quarter tavern. Rum had fallen out of favor in the U.S. with the rise of whiskey's popularity. To get rid of the rum he starting mixing it with juice and syrup, serving it to sailors in hurricane lamp shaped glasses. It became a New Orleans classic!
